Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced and motivated Accounting Manager to oversee and manage our financial operations. This role is pivotal in ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining compliance with regulations, and supporting our growth trajectory. The ideal candidate is detail-oriented, highly analytical, and thrives in a fast-paced environment. In this position, you will report to VP of Finance, work with external bookkeepers/accountants and collaborate closely with business unit leaders. This role requires a blend of proficiency in accounting operations, financial reporting with financial planning and analysis skills and offers great growth potential.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee accounting operations, own and oversee the A/R, A/P, Payroll processing, general ledger and month-end closing with external bookkeepers/accountants.
- Support carbon credits transactions end to end.
- Prepare and file GST/HST returns; Administer year-end payroll filings.
- Manage year-end closing and the external annual audits.
- Prepare monthly financial reporting package for investors and senior management, provide variance analysis between actual results and budgets and KPI reporting.
- Maintain and develop accounting policies. Drive continuous improvement in financial processes with an emphasis on scalability and efficiency.
- Participate in annual budgeting processes, working with department leaders to ensure alignment with overall business goals.
- Assist with developing and refining financial models (annual planning, products break-even, cost analysis and optimization, etc.)
- Participate in cross-functional ad-hoc projects as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- Must have CPA designation in good standing with a Canadian provincial association.
- A minimum of 5 years experience in a finance or accounting role, with at least 2 years in a senior role.
- Proven experience in a technology startup or fast-growing company is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of accounting principles, standards, and regulations (e.g., GAAP, IFRS).
- Proficiency in QBO and the automation tools in QBO ecosystem.
- Advanced proficiency in Excel / Google Sheets and financial modeling tools.
- Exceptional analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- Ability to adapt to a rapidly changing environment and manage multiple priorities.
