Position Summary:
We are seeking a highly motivated and results-oriented to join our growing team as a Director, Business Development. In this role, you will be responsible for hands-on sales execution, identifying, pursuing, and closing opportunities to grow ClearBlue’s global client base across North America, Latin America, Europe, United Kingdom, and China. This position will work with a team of Business Development Managers and Analysts to develop and execute sales strategies, manage prospective client relationships, proposals, and new client contracts.
The ideal candidate thrives in leading in a fast-paced environment, has a strong consultative sales approach, and excels at building long-term client relationships. You will play a pivotal role in expanding ClearBlue’s market presence and helping clients achieve their sustainability and carbon market goals.
What you'll be doing:
Client Acquisition & Sales Execution:
- Drive the full sales cycle, from lead generation to closing, achieving or exceeding sales targets, with a focus on growing subscription-based revenue in our Advisory business.
- Lead and mentor a small team of Business Development Managers and Analysts to build and execute upon ClearBlue’s Advisory Business Development Plan.
- Identify and target prospective clients worldwide, focusing on industries such as energy, utilities, manufacturing, and financial institutions.
- Conduct discovery calls and meetings to understand client needs and position ClearBlue’s subscription-based products, including ClearBlue Vantage, as the solution.
- Develop and deliver compelling proposals, presentations, and pitches customized to client requirements, highlighting the value of subscription offerings.
Market Development:
- Research and analyze market trends, client needs, and competitive landscapes to identify growth opportunities for both subscription and non-subscription services.
- Expand ClearBlue’s footprint in North America by developing strategies to penetrate new markets and build ClearBlue’s brand.
Client Relationship Management:
- Build and nurture long-term relationships with prospective and current clients, serving as a trusted advisor on their carbon strategy needs.
- Collaborate with internal teams to ensure seamless onboarding, client satisfaction, and retention.
Reporting & Insights:
- Maintain accurate records of sales activities and opportunities in CRM platforms
- Provide leadership with regular updates on sales performance, market feedback, and client insights to support strategic decision-making.
You have:
- 10+ years of business development / sales experience, preferably in subscription sales , carbon markets, sustainability, or related industries.
- Proven track record of meeting or exceeding targets and goals in a business development role.
- Good understanding of carbon markets, emissions trading, and sustainability services.
- Experience in consultative selling, with the ability to identify client challenges and propose tailored solutions.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to influence decision-makers at all levels.
- Exceptional leadership and organizational skills to work with staff both in-office and in a remote setting.
- Proficiency in CRM platforms and familiarity with reporting tools.
- Understanding of environmental policies and trends in North America.
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in Business, Environmental Studies, or a related field. Advanced degrees or certifications are a plus.
