Overview:
We are seeking an experienced leader in carbon markets to join our Market Access team. The Manager, Carbon Transactions will lead a small team of experienced carbon market analysts to support ClearBlue’s clients in assessing opportunities across programs in Canada, the U.S., Mexico, South America, and Europe in order to participate as a buyer or seller of various environmental financing mechanisms (e.g. Compliance credits, RECs, RINs, Offsets, Insets, etc)
The job will offer the opportunity to work with industrials, financial institutions, fuel producers, utilities, shipping and aviation companies and others on carbon market access strategies to meet their emission reduction goals. The successful candidate will bring a combination of technical, financial, business development, and leadership skills with strong communication, analytical and marketing competencies. The Manager, Carbon Transactions will also work collaboratively with other teams at ClearBlue in the development of advisory outputs including economic value assessments, regulatory risk analysis, market outlooks, reports, memos, presentations, and compliance strategies.
Main Responsibilities:
- Lead, motivate, and mentor a small team of carbon market analysts to act as a bridge between clients and buyers and sellers of carbon instruments, assisting clients to meet GHG reduction targets and mitigate market risks.
- Understand existing carbon markets and approach clients for transaction opportunities.
- Respond to client requests for quotes, policy analysis and strategic insights.
- Participate in customer visits and conferences dedicated to relevant markets.
- Provide leadership in understanding existing and new environmental markets, and how our clients are impacted by those schemes and identifying market opportunities.
- Lead identification and completion of sales of carbon credits, renewable energy or offsets with existing and new clients.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s/Undergraduate degree in business, finance, economics, environmental management, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience executing transactions in environmental, energy and/or agricultural commodity markets.
- 2+ years of direct leadership experience. Leadership experience in a trading environment and/or with staff in remote locations is an asset.
- Highly accountable and able to work with minimal supervision.
- Demonstrated ability to develop relationships with key market stakeholders and all levels internally.
- Strong interpersonal and excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Excellent quantitative skills.
- An affinity for carbon markets and reducing air emissions and environmental impact.
- Ambitious and team player.
