ClearBlue Markets is pleased to share that EcoLinks’ Clean Cookstove Project has achieved Gold Standard Certified design status. This means the program is validated and eligible to generate carbon credits under Article 6.2 of the Paris Agreement, which facilitates international cooperation on emissions reductions.
In May 2024, ClearBlue Markets announced its collaboration with EcoLinks in developing and commercializing a clean cooking project in Ghana. As the technical carbon advisor, ClearBlue prepared all necessary documentation for project registration, including the local stakeholder consultation. ClearBlue also conducted the verification process with an external third party and managed additional findings. Going forward, ClearBlue will support EcoLinks on the issuance and commercialization of the carbon credits.
ClearBlue is proud to have helped guide this initiative to bring cleaner, safer and more efficient cooking to thousands of homes and transform rural communities across Ghana.
The project aims to distribute 100,000 high-efficiency charcoal-based cookstoves within five years, replacing traditional three-stone stoves.
The current situation of cooking over an open fire in Ghana creates health and social problems, especially for women and children, who spend many hours cooking and harvesting fuel. The Clean Cookstove Project will promote cleaner cooking methods and significantly reduce air pollution and carbon emissions, leading to a healthier environment. The distribution of 100,000 cookstoves will be fully funded by the carbon credits generated under the project.
Introducing cookstoves will enable more time for individuals to focus on education, employment and entrepreneurial pursuits, priorities identified during stakeholder consultation. The project has engaged people in Canada, Amsterdam, Ghana and South Korea, showing that climate change activities and their impacts have no boundaries.
EcoLinks aims to reduce more than 600,000 metric tons of CO2e in the first five years of the project by avoiding biomass use, promoting better cooking conditions, protecting forests and improving public health in vulnerable communities. This impact is rooted in strong local partnerships, especially with farmers, ensuring community ownership and long-term sustainability.
