The future of Ontario's carbon cap-and-trade program hangs on an election that remains too close to call.
Nicolas Girod of the carbon market advisory firm ClearBlue Markets called the consequences of a Progressive Conservative victory "a big unknown," but said he did not expect an immediate impact on allowance prices. Ontario's partners, California and Quebec, would have little choice but to forge on and look for new linkage opportunities if the province exits.
